Players, especially on offense, hate when they get hit low. Taking a hit like that can easily result in a season-ending knee injury. Although the defender will likely argue that’s the only place they’re allowed to hit people due to the league’s rules.

We’ve seen multiple times where a defender goes high on what looks like a clean play, but then gets penalized with a harsh 15-yard penalty. Defenders would much rather risk injuring the opposition than hurting their team’s chances at winning with a costly penalty.

This issue has been going on for a while, and Cardinals veteran WR Larry Fitzgerald apparently tells defenders he’d help pay their fines if they go high instead of low.
