According to ESPN, the team announced in a letter from president Bruce Allen to season-ticket holders that they “will be the first to receive in-game player status updates … even before the NFL or the media!”

Fans will receive the breaking news — the letter promises first news on free-agent transactions and the NFL Draft, too — via the team’s mobile app.

Previously, teams released injury information to the television network broadcasting the game. Fans at the game often had to get updates via the radio broadcast, Twitter or stadium scoreboard.

An NFL spokesman declined to comment to ESPN on Washington’s plan, but the league’s policy regarding who gets information when about injuries, in particular, doesn’t specify a pecking order but rather just that the information should be reported accurately as soon as possible to the media and in the stadium to inform fans.

The biggest 2015 news item — ahead of upgrading amenities at FedEx Field or injury reports — would be a winning record in D.C. Since 2000, the Redskins have hit double-digit wins twice, in 2005 and 2010, and made the playoffs only three times.

That, ESPN noted, is why Allen’s letter to season-ticket holders depicted the addition of GM Scot McCloughan at the start of offseason renovations: “It starts with football. In January, we began with the hiring of well-respected General Manager Scot McCloughan as well as key additions to the coaching staff. Free agency, 10 draft picks and other roster moves have made every aspect of the team better. Our offense, defense and special teams should all be impacted in a positive way in 2015.”
