The modern record for most steals in a game is six, most recently accomplished by Carl Crawford for Tampa Bay in 2009.

As impressive as five steals in one game is, Hamilton isn’t the most single-game prolific Billy Hamilton on the bases: Another Billy Hamilton once stole seven bases in a game for the Phillies in 1894.

Unfortunately for the modern Billy Hamilton, his five steals Sunday weren’t enough to lead the Reds to victory — they lost 2-1 to the Cubs in 11 innings at Wrigley Field.
