With less than a minute to go in the third period, multiple players began brawling in front of the Lightning net. Blunden got knocked to the ice, and Abdelkader dropped to his knees and landed a flurry of uppercuts and blows to the defenseless Blunden’s head and neck.

Here’s another look at it.

Blunden eventually managed to get to his feet and left the ice with a bloody face. He reportedly received nine stitches for his wounds.

Officials handed out 14 penalties following the brawl, with Abdelkader given a fighting major and game misconduct. But he better be looking over his shoulder when the teams meet again in Detroit for Game 3 Sunday.

The Lightning won Friday’s game 5-2 to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
