In Red Dead Redemption, John Marston is the game’s primary protagonist. A former outlaw who tried to go straight, Marston was effectively blackmailed into doing the dirty work of the game’s primary antagonist, Edgar Ross, who forces him to hunt down the surviving members of his old gang. The character had fallen out with these members following a heist gone wrong which was detailed in the prequel, Red Dead Redemption 2. Ultimately, Edgar Ross has John Marston killed in what is often considered to be one of the best deaths in gaming.

John Marston’s voice actor, Rob Wiethoff, would go on to reprise the role for Red Dead Redemption 2 and the first game’s DLC, Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare. At the end of the second game, John became the primary player character for the post-story content after the death of Arthur Morgan. Despite having been released nearly twelve years ago, Rob Wiethoff has never played the first game, but this is about to change. In a recent TikTok post, Wiethoff revealed that he would be streaming the first game for the first time.
In the post, Rob Wiethoff revealed that he would be streaming the game with Dan Allen from Dan Allen Gaming. The Red Dead Redemption star revealed that he had recently done an interview with Allen which prompted the conversation. Furthermore, Wiethoff stated that one of the reasons he never played the game was because he was terrible at it and didn’t have the time. This has not stopped him from commenting on the Red Dead Online situation. The stream will happen on Sunday, at 10 AM Eastern Time.
Despite the success of the role, Rob Wiethoff has done very little voice acting outside the Red Dead Redemption games. He also acted in the interactive radio drama, Codename Cygnus and has had a few small roles in films like the 2006 Bruce Willis movie, 16 Blocks. After he completed work on the first game, he opted to go into sales and construction in order to spend more time with his family. However, he is interested in returning to the role of John Marston for another Red Dead Redemption if the opportunity arose.
Red Dead Redemption is available now for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
