With a new set of Red Dead Redemption 2 screenshots, Rockstar has aimed to rectify that. The new images of the game offer a look at the many towns that players will visit through the game. There are the likes of Valentine in The Heartlands which is described as a “rough-and-tumble” place with prostitutes, gamblers, and cowboys which is a stark contrast to Rhodes in Scarlett Meadows which seems prim and proper aside from the conflict between two plantation families and the undercover corruption.

The people of Annesburg in Roanoke Ridge are hardworking miners who put up with terrible working conditions and atrocious pay. Meanwhile, Lagras in Bayou Nwa is a small and swampy settlement where people fish and hunt whereas Saint Denis (also in Bayou Nwa) is a city of sailors and laborers but also businessmen and beggars. The mayor of Strawberry is trying to turn it into a bustling tourist attraction and finally, the cold climes of Mount Hagen are part of a larger mountain range.

Like all open-world games, the challenge will be ensuring that the game offers players with something to do across these vast expanses. Rockstar has already offered some details on this front. The game will include bank heists, for instance, as protagonist Arthur Morgan and other members of the Van der Linde will take loot by any means possible.

Speaking of the Van der Linde gang, much of the game’s story will feature the gang on the run. It’s not hard to imagine the crew getting up to no good in Valentine, trying to shake the lawmen on their trail in Mount Hagen, and stocking up on supplies by hunting for their supper in Lagras.

It is in these locations which players will meet the many characters of Red Dead Redemption 2. There will be plenty of friends and (potential) foes along the way, some of whom Rockstar has introduced with the new character art it showed off recently. How exactly their stories will tie in with these locations is currently unclear but fans of the cowboy franchise will be excited to find out.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on PS4 and Xbox One on October 26, 2018.
