Red Dead Redemption 2 has a series of legendary animals and fish that players can track down. These creatures are known for being incredibly large and distinctive from even the biggest examples of their species. Aside from these, normal fish in Red Dead Redemption 2 vary in size and usually have a reasonable range of weights and sizes.

Reddit user u/NBA_Whiteboy_420 recently shared a screenshot with the Red Dead Redemption subreddit of an impressively oversized largemouth bass they caught in-game. Their Arthur holds a fish nearly capable of swallowing the protagonist whole. Shockingly, Red Dead Redemption 2 reports that this fish weighs in at just 5lbs 11 oz. Which is proof that something has gone wrong here and the player is probably experiencing a bug. The fish pictured would easily weigh more than quadruple that being about a third the size of Arthur Morgan.
The odd thing here is that the player reports they were trying to catch the Legendary Bluegill when this anomaly appeared. There is only one location where that fish can be caught and it is miles from where the Legendary Largemouth Bass is. So it can’t be that the legendary snuck on to the lure as an explanation. This giant should therefore just be attributed to a one-time bug with Red Dead Redemption 2.
This fish even gives the Legendary Largemouth Bass a run for its money. Though clearly a glitch in the game, this moment goes to show how important the side quests and activities are in a game such as Red Dead Redemption 2. This post caught fire on the Red Dead Redemption subreddit because of how well fishing works in the game. The numerous comments under the post relaying Arthur Morgan’s phrases on catching a fish are a wholesome showing from the community.
However, moments such as this can take players out of a game. Fishing, while fairly entertaining, doesn’t hit all players the same. This makes some of the non-optional fishing sections in the Red Dead Redemption 2 story arc tedious with some even calling the segments forced. Regardless of how players feel about fishing in-game, however, fans can agree that this was quite the catch.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
