RDR2 will be 2 years old later this year, but its Photo Mode is slightly younger. It first came to the game in the PC version in 2019, with console players getting it shortly thereafter. Given the iconic Wild West scenery of the game, it’s slightly surprising it took so long and especially so after viewing u/Capt_Galahad’s beautiful lasso capture.

As seen below, this image looks like something out of Red Dead Redemption 2 marketing, complete with the right amount of light, the perfect rearing, and a nice close up image of the lasso. Many expressed doubt this was even captured in-game, while many others heaped praise upon it. One interaction is that someone commenting that Red Dead Redemption 2 players might just be using this for the desktop (and that they were one of those players).
It’s certainly an incredibly image, but as Galahad notes, it took quite a few tries and a lot of luck. Eventually, Galahad began experimenting with different times and locations, finding that Copperhead Landing was good in the morning due to a few factors and went well with a simple red filter. This Red Dead Redemption 2 player then began experimenting with rearing shots, using arrows, tomahawks, and guns before settling on this lasso.
At the end of the day, it’s an incredible shot, and many would agree that this RDR2 player has “won” Photo Mode. It’s definitely a hard image to top, and it goes to show what a little luck and determination can do in a game, even in supplementary mechanics.
