However, as Red Dead Redemption 2 players also know, looting houses and buildings in the game can be a tedious affair. If the room you’re looting is cramped it can be difficult to maneuver Arthur in order to pick up an awkwardly placed item. Likewise, if a room is packed full of lootable goodies, getting Arthur to pick them up can be hard work. Or, if a room is dimly lit, it can be difficult to gauge whether there’s anything worth looting at all. In general, it’s a fiddly process.

Thankfully though, there are a few ways that players can make it a lot easier on themselves. The first is to use Arthur’s eagle sense when he enters the room. While eagle sense is typically used when hunting animals in order to track them down, doing it indoors will also highlight lootable items. So, if you can’t tell whether that’s a pack of premium cigarettes, a bottle of Kentucky bourbon, or just an oddly colored bit of wall texture, eagle eye will help you out.

Another piece of advice is to activate the first-person mode. The game’s first-person mode makes tracking down items a whole lot simpler because of the way that it immerses players in the world. You can change additional, hidden settings in the game’s view and control menus to further improve the first-person mode and make it more like a first-person shooter and thus even more useful.

And finally, players may not have realized that they can press and hold the action button (square on PS4, X on Xbox One) to get Arthur to loot a house automatically. If a wardrobe has a cabinet and three drawers in it, pressing the action button to search all of those spaces individually is going to suck the fun out of looting. But, by pressing and holding the button, Arthur will just get on with it, rifling through and picking up any lootable items that he has room for in his inventory. Automatic looting? Crime has never been so easy.
