The game’s main character, Arthur Morgan, is also a part of the gang mentioned earlier and regularly participates in exciting and mostly criminal activities with fellow members. Each of these Red Dead Redemption 2 characters has a distinct relationship with Arthur, with some being more involved with him than others. Players can modify these relationships to some extent via in-game choices that eventually define the story’s outcome.

The game’s climax reveals which gang members took Arthur’s side and which didn’t. Interestingly, one keen-eyed player observed a pattern among the Van Der Linde gang members and their affinity towards Arthur Morgan. Reddit user Some_Gas_1337 shared a series of images that shows the deceased members of the gang. Notably, these are also the people who sided with Arthur on regular occasions and ultimately met their demise in the course of Red Dead Redemption 2.
Sean MacGuire, Keiran Duffy, Lenny Summers, Hosea Mathews, Molly O’Shea, and Susan Grimshaw are the names pointed out by Some_Gas_1337’s pictures. Naturally, the post received widespread appreciation on Reddit, as seen by nearly 2,700 upvotes and hundreds of comments. Many users mentioned memorable quotes from the characters mentioned above. Meanwhile, others debated how the events of Red Dead Redemption 2 would’ve turned out if Hosea survived until chapter 6. One Redditor named MVT3600 commented, “If Hosea hadn’t died they would’ve never been in the late Chapter 6 situation.”
Among the six deceased Van Der Linde gang members mentioned above, Hosea Mathews arguably had the most intimate relationship with Arthur Morgan. Arthur viewed Hosea as an inspirational figure and respected his authority within the group. Moreover, they both had spent several years together, and they often considered each other as family. Naturally, Hosea’s presence during the final chapter of Red Dead Redemption 2 would’ve made a dramatic difference to Arthur’s fate. Some fans are urging Rockstar to focus more on the backstory of Hosea and Dutch in Red Dead Redemption 3.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
