Hunting is offered as a substantial part of gameplay, with players able to both hunt and then sell their prizes, and so Red Dead Redemption 2 has many different predators who are more than willing to take a chunk out of Arthur Morgan as he hunts them down. One that consistently makes top rank for deadliest is the grizzly bear. Reddit user Wardroid1 managed to capture a strange grizzly encounter in a game clip.

The video clip shows Arthur atop his horse at a slow trot through a tunnel, stopping to read some ominous graffiti on the wall. Suddenly, the silence is broken by an unmistakable roar. The camera quickly shifts to a bear behind the player, menacingly approaching along the train tracks. Wardroid1 spurs quickly into action in order to move away from the bear, with Arthur giving an in-game vocal command to his horse that is timed, rather nicely, to sound like a startled yell. Strange and unexplainable occurrences with the creatures of Red Dead Redemption 2 have happened before, but this was definitely more than a little startling.

The fact that the bear is in the tunnel is odd by itself, but the shock value comes from there being no warning other than the aggressive roar that gave it away to Wardroid1. The amount of detail that has gone into making Red Dead Redemption 2 has turned it into one of the most cinematic games of all time, and this extends to the audio as well as the graphics. The realism given to the bear’s ferocity mixed with the fact that it’s one of the most dangerous beasts to come across turned it into a true threat rather than just a random, passing encounter with any in-game creature.

This Wild West tale of a game offers a highly detailed look into outlaw living, with not just hunting on the agenda of Arthur Morgan but plenty of action-packed train sequences, heists, and scenic horseback rides.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available to play on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
