In the single player portion of Red Dead Redemption 2, hunting animals, skinning them, and then selling their pelts is one of the primary ways players can make money in the game. Animal pelts are also used to craft some useful items, including satchel storage upgrades, new clothes, and more. However, Red Dead Online reduces the importance of animal pelts, with players unable to use them for crafting purposes.
There also doesn’t appear to be any trappers in Red Dead Online, which is where players would typically sell animal pelts to be used for crafting later. Instead of taking pelts to trappers, Red Dead Online players simply need to take animal pelts they’ve collected to the local butchers that can be found in most of the big towns dotted around the world map.
Some Red Dead Redemption 2 enthusiasts may be disappointed that hunting animals doesn’t seem to be quite as important in Red Dead Online, but that doesn’t mean there still isn’t plenty to do in the online multiplayer mode. Red Dead Online allows players to form a posse with their friends, and then take on a variety of story missions and free-roaming activities together. It also lets players team up online to partake in various versus multiplayer matches.
Standard deathmatches are included, but Red Dead Online also includes its own take on battle royale genre with the Make It Count mode. Like other battle royale games, Make It Count has players battling it out in specific areas of the map, with their play area shrinking at certain intervals. It doesn’t feature any looting and players aren’t doing any skydiving, but it’s still a battle royale experience nevertheless.
While some fans may be disappointed that hunting and collecting animal pelts isn’t as important in Red Dead Online, hopefully the various multiplayer game modes make up for it.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
