According to the packaging of the Red Dead Redemption 2 PS4 Pro bundle, Red Dead Online will support between two and 32 players. This information can be found on the back of the box, in the very small white print. Rockstar has yet to detail specific modes that will be included in Red Dead Online, but it has suggested that it would like to offer substantial multiplayer events, in the vein of Grand Theft Auto Online’s heists. Fans will have to wait for a confirmation on exactly which modes will be available in Red Dead Online and what are the player count limits for each of them.

It’s worth noting that the maximum player count for Red Dead Online is twice that of multiplayer in the original Red Dead Redemption (16 players). It is also two more than the maximum player count of Grand Theft Auto Online (30 players). As such, it makes sense why the Red Dead Redemption 2 developer would want to test the stability of its game with the Red Dead Online beta.

Another issue for Rockstar to consider is the size of the game’s map. It has been confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2’s map is larger than that of any other game that Rockstar has ever developed. While this is great news for players who would like to explore a vast open-world full of things to do, if players are able to explore it freely in multiplayer, it could pose a real headache. Rockstar will already be on high alert busting bugs in its world, but the need to make sure everything stays stable while connected for multiplayer will be an additional challenge.

Again, this is what the beta testing is for. Rockstar does seem prepared to adapt, and it has already warned fans that Red Dead Online’s launch may not be smooth sailing. Technical issues are to be expected, but fingers crossed that it won’t be quite as disastrous as GTA Online’s launch.
