According to Rockstar Games, the Fool’s Gold Free Roam Event in Red Dead Online will have players compete to control a suit of Golden Armor. Those who take down the armor wearer will earn points and be able to claim the outfit as their own, with players then earning points for kills while donning the gaudy getup.

The two new weapons on the way to Red Dead Online are the high grade, high capacity Evans Repeater rifle and the powerful double-barreled Rare Shotgun. Players will be able to find both of the fresh firearms via the Wheeler & Rawson Catalogue and at local Gunsmiths once the latest update is applied.

In addition to the new Free Roam Event and weapons, Rockstar has also promised that Red Dead Online’s first major title update will bring competitive Fishing Challenges, where players will receive all the equipment necessary to try and catch the highest weight total of fish to win. While taking on this particular challenge’s gameplay, players won’t be affected by outside players trying to grief them by inflicting damage upon them or killing them.

The forthcoming Red Dead Online update will also bring three new Showdown Modes called Up in Smoke, Spoils of War, and Plunder, where players and teams compete to capture and deliver bags and steal loot from each other, all while trying to survive. Additionally, Races will also receive a fresh variation with Target Races, as players will be charged with shooting targets from horseback to pass checkpoints while racing along a track to the finish line.

Furthermore, Rockstar is going to add a “wide range” of new duds and emotes for character customization, including fresh jackets, boots, coats, gloves, hats, vests, and more. New emotes are on the way, too, including variations on greetings, reactions, and taunts. Also, PS4 players will get early access to Open Target Races to compete in an open space and take out the most targets on horseback. The Sony console also receives early access to the Jawbone Knife and “a range of new clothing options and 3 new Emotes”.

Finally, ahead of all that’s to come with Red Dead Online’s aforementioned patch, those who play RDO all this week are eligible to earn 20% more XP on all activities. Plus, new content and special promotions are set to arrive weekly following the update. With this being the case, it will be interesting to see if the online beta gets flooded with cowpokes prior to and after the update drops on February 26.

Red Dead Online is available now in beta through Red Dead Redemption 2 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
